It is easy to give a pregnant mother ten poses from a reference board. It is much harder to understand which of those poses actually suits her body, her outfit, her energy and the light in front of you. Sometimes a pose needs to be simplified. Sometimes she looks better sitting than standing. Sometimes the best photograph happens when she turns towards her husband instead of looking at the camera. Sometimes the right decision is simply to stop for a few minutes.

Pregnancy photographs become much more meaningful when they show the people who were actually waiting for the baby.

A husband may not care about having twenty individual photographs of himself, but years later he may value the photograph where his hand is resting on the baby bump.
